Seagate offers an incredible 5 year warranty on their drives so it is almost a no brainer decision. If something goes wrong, they can try to repair and recover your data. If not, they will usually replace the drive. Most other companies only give you a 1 or 2 year warranty. If you are planning on toting your external Seagate hard drive around then I also suggest you get a soft case. Seagate drives are tough but like any electronic device, they need to be taken care of.

Most Seagate drives come already formatted in NTFS format which most people prefer. NTFS handles large files and security of data much better than FAT32.

Another important feature of a Seagate external hard drive is that it is compatible with all operating systems that are able to handle NTFS. Recently Linux and MAC have made huge strives for compatibility. I use Linux and have no problem with my Seagate at all.
